Icy Cosmos is the 2020 NANPA Best in Show for ‘Scapes.
I have always been fascinated by glacier ice caves. The Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska has had many ice caves over the years. I’ve had the opportunity to visit and photograph them countless times. During one of my trips inside this glacier, I found a moulin that was perfectly setup for a star trails long exposure fine art image looking up at the cosmos. Alaska has some of the most epic scenery.
The unique look and beauty of a glacial ice cave is hard to grasp until you step foot inside. I wanted to take this even further so I ventured into this cave at sunset and waited for the stars to start twinkling in the sky. Setting my camera to capture the celestial dance over a 2.5 hour period. I watched the cosmos from inside an icy fortress…
