Apollo Bay is one of many epic stops along the Great Ocean Road in Australia. This iconic road winds along the coast of Victoria is southern Australia. We found it to be one of the most beautiful drives ever. There are many great locations to stop along the way (like the famous 12 Apostles). During one of our many trips to to Australia, my wife and I drove over 5k km in a 3 week period. We saw many piers along the drive, but this one captured my attention. The sunrise was fantastic with beautiful glowing light that wrapped around the pillars of Apollo Bay. We could have easily spent our entire trip exploring this beautiful part of Australia.
After driving many hours along the coast, we stopped into this small town for a good sleep. At least for my wife. I find that I wander out for sunrise almost every day of a trip and sleep is more of a luxury than it should be. Finding the perfect sunrise location can be a challenge in the dark. I initially started from an overlook as I thought that would be the best option. Thankfully I changed course before the sun hit and headed down toward the pier.
